Who's Hungry?
I've received funding from Meet The Composer to compose the soundscore for a toy theater puppet production by Dan Froot and Dan Hurlin called
'Who's Hungry/Santa Monica.'
Dan Froot has interviewed 5 'food-insecure' people for 10 hours each, and we are creating a puppet show from their stories. It will premiere at Highways Performance Space in Santa Monica, California in January, 2012.

September 18, 2011 - December 31, 2011; 9am-5pm
Fern Room, Lincoln Park Conservatory 2391 N. Stockton Drive

I was one of four vocalists conscripted by Steve Peters to improvise melodic lines over drones derived from the resonant frequencies of the space, using the Latin names of the pteridophytes present as lyrical content, while their common names are quietly whispered in the background. The final mix is beautiful!

My colleague Kaffe Matthews told me she'd been designing sonic furniture vibrated by electronic music, installing it all over the world. When I asked if she'd do one in Seattle, she suggested I do it, since she had no time. I wrote & received grants from The Seattle's Mayor's Office of Arts & Cultural Affairs and from 4 Culture (King County WA).

At first I followed her design, a metal bench with all-weather speakers powered by a Mini Mac running the Max ESP program. Later I decided it should be off the grid, no electricity, no computing, and began collaboration with inventor/sculptor Kim David Hall to design, fabricate & install this stainless steel Sonic Bench at the Monorail Station at the Seattle Center for Winterfest 2009; it was on exhibit for one year.
Mr. Hall created an elegant design, and I helped out with the sonic details. It's an all-weather 3-person stainless steel bench which can be played like a thumb piano (by more than 3 people), the tines right where your hands would rest anyway, while sitting there. It is beautifully embossed, and children of all ages love to play it.

Here's a short video of our first day of collaboration.

In 2010 we received further funds from 4Culture to refurbish it and install it permanently in
Ober Park on Vashon Island.

Made possible in part by funds & fine folks from Ober Park, 4Culture and the Seattle Mayor's Office of Arts and Cultural Affairs, and the fine cooperation of Pete Rush at the Seattle Center. Thank you, all y'all!

Ama Trio
Amy Denio + Correo Aereo (Madeleine Sosin & Abel Rocha)
Ama Trio’s music has been described as a ‘rarely yodeling, always scintillating latin american afro sephardic eastern european gypsy circus chamber band!’ The unique and resonant blend of these 3 talented musicians from diverse backgrounds creates sumptuous music with depth, nuance, complexity and playfulness that de-colonizes the mind and celebrates the solidarity of all peoples everywhere who love Life! Their music has sabor and is richly polyrhythmic and soulfully melodic - gorgeous, fiery, haunting and joyful...this is the universal language, world music at its finest.

Ama Trio live on ARTZONE, on the Seattle Channel:

Since 2006, I've been playing in accordion quartet Hell's Bellows!.
Eli Kaufman, Marchette DuBois, Scott Adams, Amy Denio. We play our own original compositions, and sing quite larkily!
